I have loved plaid for a long, long time. Growing up, I lived near a private school, and although I always loved being able to express myself though fashion as a public school student, there is something about that uniform plaid skirt that I always envied.
I love the versatility of plaid. You can be very traditional and ‘British’ with your plaid one day, and the next opt for a look that is very edgy and rock ‘n roll. Eve Gravel’s Mushi Mushi dress is a perfect example of a plaid piece that can take on any persona from Girly to Grungy. This dress easily melds to any mood; pair it with anything from heels and booties, to biker boots like these by Kurt Geiger.

One of the best things about traveling is the anonymity. In most cases, you won’t run into your neighbor, boss, teacher, ex, etc, so take a fashion risk and try something new! Take along that item hanging in your closet that you love but have never quite had the confidence to wear. Traveling is a fabulous way to test drive something bold or to try a new trend. Most of the time, the item I was cautious about wearing becomes a new favorite for my everyday wardrobe.
Over the past few years, Mr. Marble and I have been very fortunate in the travel department. Whether it is a weekend mini-break, cruising the Caribbean or exploring Europe, traveling is one of my most favorite things to do. There is romance, there is adventure and there is always fashion inspiration!
When I am away, I like to think of shopping as market research. Convenient, isn’t it? If you live in a small city, as I do, you don’t get the brand exposure that is available in a larger setting. Traveling always introduces me to new labels, and reaffirms old favorites.
Shopping in a foreign city also provides great inspiration for the site. As much as I love small, intimate boutiques, I also love gleaming, gigantic department stores! It’s fun to take in all the colors, textures and finishes of the physical space and think about how they could be translated to an online environment.
Exploring a large city like London, Paris, New York or San Francisco is sort of like looking through the pages of a fashion magazine. Except that it is even better, because it is more organic. You get to see real people with real body-types interpreting every fashion trend imaginable. I often fall in love with a look on the street and have on more than one occasion snapped a photo of a coat, bag or boot on someone standing near me… Is that creepy?
At home or abroad, if you see someone rocking a look you love, take a second and tell her or him! Saying “I like your whatever” has lead me to a lot of fashion happiness. In most cases, the other person will tell you where they found the item and (more importantly) be flattered that you took the time to pay them a compliment.

Hope that everyone enjoyed a happy and healthy holiday season.
We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead at Marble! To kick things off, we have massive Marble markdowns coming your way very soon!
